State Highway 14 in Skamania County was closed in both directions for about three hours after a semi truck flipped on its side, officials said.

The crash happened around 11 a.m. Tuesday about 6 miles west of White Salmon on SR-14, a Washington State Patrol release said.

A semi truck driven by Thandeep S. Grewal, 29, of British Columbia was westbound on the highway approaching a tunnel, the release said. High winds caused the truck to be blown onto its passenger side. The truck then hit the westbound guardrail and slid to a rest in the east part of the tunnel, the release said.

Grewal was uninjured but the truck had an estimated $10,000 in damages from the crash.

The highway was closed in both directions until about 1:50 p.m. when the truck was towed from the scene, said Trooper Ryan Tanner, a state patrol spokesman.

Crews are careful not to cause further damage to road or vehicle while dragging vehicles out and flipping them, he said.
