EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A Springfield man accused of faking cancer to collect donations was arrested Tuesday on felony theft charges.
Twenty-eight-year-old Charles Embleton had been charged last year with theft by deception. The new charges were added in a grand jury indictment.
The Register-Guard reports (http://is.gd/47ohxw ) Springfield police began investigating Embleton in May when a pizza company reported suspicions about $1,700 in proceeds from a fundraising night at a restaurant.
Police got a court order for his medical records, which failed to confirm a cancer diagnosis.
