HAMMOND, La. (AP) — Brooks Ybarra hit a 16-foot jumper as time expired as Texas State edged Southeastern Louisiana 62-61 on Wednesday night.
Matt Staff scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as Texas State (12-15, 4-9 Southland Conference) won its third straight game and second consecutive on the road.
Southeastern Louisiana (10-16, 3-10) pulled within 60-59 with 27.2 seconds left when Jeremy Campbell drove the length of the floor off a missed shot by Texas State’s Wesley Davis and scored on a layup. DeShawn Patterson then swiped a Bobcats pass and Campbell converted again, this time on a driving shot with 5.2 seconds left to put the Lions ahead 61-60.
But Texas State inbounded the ball to half court and after a timeout, and Ybarra drained his game-winning jumper from the left elbow.
Davis finished with 12 points for the Bobcats, while Roosevelt Johnson led the Lions with 18 points.
