Britain to bid for 2018 Youth Olympics in Glasgow

LONDON (AP) — Britain wants to host the 2018 Youth Olympics in Glasgow.

The British Olympic Association says it will present a bid to the International Olympic Committee before the deadline on March 1.

BOA Chairman Colin Moynihan says “the 2018 Youth Olympic Games would present an outstanding and unique opportunity to further expand the legacy of the London 2012 Games.”

Other cities bidding are Buenos Aires, Argentina; Medellin, Colombia; Abuja, Nigeria; Kaspiysk, Russia and Guadalajara, Mexico.

The IOC will publish a shortlist in January and announce the host city in 2013.
