OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — While her husband visited Republican lawmakers at the Capitol, Callista Gingrich toured a Christian school and read students her children’s book “Sweet Land of Liberty,” a story about a history-loving elephant.
Gingrich met with students Evergreen Christian School Friday in Olympia on Friday morning. She urged children to pay attention to their history lessons and to learn about history at a young age, as this was one of the reasons she wrote the book.
Following the tour, she appeared with “Ellis the Elephant,” the main character in her book while she read to a gym full of students.
Newt Gingrich is in a crowded primary race with Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, and Ron Paul. He visited western Washington Friday in advance of the state’s nonbinding straw poll caucus on March 3.
