GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) — Third baseman Scott Rolen has recovered from shoulder surgery, but isn’t sure how many games he’ll be able to play for the Cincinnati Reds in the final season of his contract.
Rolen had surgery on Aug. 3 to clean out his troublesome left shoulder. He wanted to play again before the end of last season, but didn’t recover from the surgery as quickly as hoped.
The 36-year-old infielder reported with Reds position players on Friday for their first workout. He said he’s been taking batting practice every other day and the shoulder feels good. He won’t guess how many games he’ll be able to play. He managed only 65 games last year, a big disappointment.
Manager Dusty Baker says he’ll make sure Rolen gets enough rest during the season.
