Congratulations to all the high school basketball teams in Clark County that are still playing this weekend. That means you reached the Sweet 16 in your classification, which is a successful season by any measure.
Two local boys teams won Friday, with Union advancing to the Class 4A Elite Eight at the Tacoma Dome, and King’s Way reaching the 1B quarterfinals in Spokane. Three girls teams play Sweet 16 games on Saturday. With a little luck, we could have multiple Clark County schools playing for state championships next week.
That said, we offer particular kudos to the Union boys. Two years ago, the Titans entered the state tournament with nine losses on the season and left it the same way — with nine losses. This year’s squad has seven losses but is still playing with one weekend left in the season. Coach Maco Hamilton has a knack for getting his team to play its best at the end of the season, and that could make the Titans dangerous next week.
