MEXICO CITY (AP) — American forward Herculez Gomez scored his first goal for Santos Laguna, then failed to convert a last-minute penalty kick in a 2-1 loss at Chivas on Sunday in the Mexican Clausura.

The 29-year-old, a member of the 2010 U.S. World Cup team, entered at the start of the second half and scored on a header in the 78th minute. He won a penalty kick in second-half injury time that goalkeeper Luis Michel saved comfortably just before the final whistle.

Chivas ended a 13-game winless streak

Santos is the fourth Mexican team for Gomez, who left Estudiantes of Guadalajara in December. He played previously for Puebla and Pachuca.
