KEIZER, Ore. (AP) — The owner of an adult foster home in Keizer, Ore., says she was on the phone and doing chores in another room when she realized her 4-month-old Chihuahua mix puppy had been barking insistently in the living room.

When Ramona Lopez went to check Tuesday, she saw a man trying to break in through the sliding glass door and another man in the backyard with him. She quickly called police in the small town near Salem.

She says police caught the would-be intruders.

Police Capt. Jeff Kuhns tells the Statesman Journal (http://is.gd/HD3JXo ) that two teens are in custody and an investigation continues.

Lopez says she’s impressed with the police, but she adds her puppy Felipe “is my hero.”
