Letter: ‘Nuts’ to the media

During the last presidential campaign, the prospect of a black man accessing the White House so transfixed the major media that most of its component entities abandoned any pretext at objectivity and leaped aboard the Obama bandwagon with the alacrity and relish of a gambler redeeming a winning lottery ticket. Now, as if to underscore that undignified stance, those same entities are attempting to chart the future of the Republican Party by asserting that it must disavow its beliefs, values and principles for the “big tent” expediency lest it render itself hopelessly irrelevant.

Putting aside for a moment the audacity of the remarks and the pitifully compromised position in which these “journalists” have placed themselves, it’s worth noting the results of a Gallup poll conducted some years ago: Respondents chose Ronald Reagan as America’s greatest president. It is his beliefs, values and principles the media want the GOP to abandon.

During World War II, the Germans surrounded the 101st Airborne at Bastogne and demanded its surrender. Commander Gen. McAuliffe replied with “Nuts!” I suggest the same response to the media, both as our answer and our evaluation of their behavior.
