MILAN (AP) — Italy’s Olympic committee president says he will not support an amnesty in the investigation into the latest match-fixing scandal to hit Italian soccer.
Cremona prosecutor Roberto di Martino said on Monday that the scandal was so vast and involved so many players that an amnesty might be the best way forward.
On Tuesday, Gianni Petrucci told Italian news agency ANSA he discussed the matter with Italian soccer federation president Giancarlo Abete and “a sporting amnesty is an unfeasible notion.”
Since the first wave of 16 arrests in June, a total of 33 people have been arrested, including former Atalanta captain Cristiano Doni and former Lazio captain Giuseppe Signori.
Several matches in Serie A involving Bari last season are under investigation.
