TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — Pierce County prosecutors charged a 37-year-old registered sex offender Tuesday with assault and attempted kidnapping for allegedly running down a woman with his pickup truck in Tacoma and trying to carry her away.

Prosecutors say Andre Jones Taylor was arrested Thursday by detectives tracking down a partial license number provided by the woman. She was hit Feb. 17 as she was walking home from the graveyard shift at a restaurant.

Police say she screamed when the driver tried to pick her up. A passer-by intervened, and the driver fled.

The woman remains hospitalized with broken bones.

Taylor is a convicted rapist. He faces at least 24 years in prison if convicted of the latest charges.
