Vandals break windows at Portland banks

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Vandals damaged banks in two Portland neighborhoods overnight.

Police say they shattered windows and doors and damaged ATM machines at a branch in the Sunnyside neighborhood and also at two banks and a Starbucks in the Hollywood business district.

Police say they’re checking bank security video to identify suspects.

KGW reports (http://is.gd/rnIqea ) an email sent to the media claimed responsibility by a group of anti-capitalists.

The email said the vandalism was in preparation for a march planned downtown Wednesday by the Occupy Portland group. That group said on its website it would peacefully try to disrupt businesses with nonviolent civil disobedience.
