SEATTLE (AP) — The state Senate has approved a bill that would require Washington’s public colleges and universities to post details about student fees on their websites.
The measure, Substitute House Bill 2352, passed unanimously in the Senate on Wednesday and was approved by the House earlier this month. Now it heads to the governor’s desk.
Sen. Rodney Tom says the measure is necessary for transparency. Students and their parents are seeing their fees go up as tuition rises. Tom says they should know what they are paying for.
The fees pay for student activities and programs, as well as repaying bonds and loans used to build dorms, dining halls and other campus facilities.
The bill would require details about these fees to be posted online each fall, including budget information.
