PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Charles Hinkle scored 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead American University past Brown on Monday.

The Eagles (9-6) shot well in the win, hitting 56 percent (24 of 43) of their shots from the field, 67 percent (6 of 9) from 3-point range, and 94 percent (16 of 17) from the free throw line.

American opened the game on a 15-5 run that was capped by a 3-pointer and free throw by Hinkle. The Eagles built their lead to 15, 33-18, with 2:46 left in the first half but three straight buckets by Brown’s Jean Harris cut the lead to nine, 35-26, at halftime.

The Eagles maintained their lead in the second half, going back up by 15, 41-26, behind consecutive 3-pointers from Hinkle and Daniel Munoz.
