CAVE JUNCTION, Ore. (AP) — Josephine County deputies say an 82-year-old Cave Junction man was able to drive off an attacker by shooting him in the foot.

Deputies did not name the man, but said they arrested his attacker, 65-year-old David C. Roberson, on multiple charges, including assault and attempted kidnapping.

Deputies say the victim and his 71-year-old wife both were injured but refused medical treatment. Roberson was treated at a hospital for his wound and then jailed.

The attack happened Monday. Deputies say they’re trying to determine a motive for it.

A spokeswoman for the Josephine County sheriff’s office says the victims recognized Roberson but didn’t associate with him regularly.

Roberson was also wanted for failing to appear in court on other charges that include robbery, trespassing, and illegal possession of a firearm.
