SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A gun was found next to the body of 34-year-old Kimberly Schmidt when her body was discovered at her north Spokane home on New Year’s Day.

But sheriff’s detectives say evidence at the scene indicates it was not a suicide. They are conducting a homicide investigation.

KREM reports (http://is.gd/rhflHo ) a lamp was knocked over and it appears her body was moved after she was shot.

Neighbors say Schmidt was nice but kept to herself. They believe a man also lived in her home.

Detectives have not named any suspects.
