Clark, Western Illinois top Oakland, Mich., 71-61

ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) — Ceola Clark scored 19 points Thursday night and keyed a late 11-0 run that propelled Western Illinois to a 71-61 victory over Oakland, Mich.

Tommie Tyler and Terell Parks scored 16 points apiece for the Leathernecks (8-5, 3-2 Summit League), who have won two in a row and four of five. Obi Emegano added 11.

Reggie Hamilton’s 16 points led the Golden Grizzlies (8-10, 2-4), whose losing streak stretched to seven games. Drew Valentine added 15 and Travis Bader 13.

The Leathernecks shot 58 percent (25 of 43), and Oakland committed 20 turnovers that led to 28 Western Illinois points.

The Leathernecks were up 53-44 with 8:19 left before a 3-pointer by Bader and Hamilton’s three-point play cut it to 53-50.

But Western Illinois scored the next 11 points, including seven by Clark, for a 64-50 advantage with 3:08 to go.

Oakland had won the teams’ previous 10 meetings.
