KAPALUA, Hawaii (AP) — Lucas Glover might not be able to start his season at the Tournament of Champions after injuring his knee while paddle boarding.
Glover says he always goes paddle boarding in Hawaii, and described this as a fluke accident. As he fell off the board over the weekend, his foot caught on the board as his body was going a different direction. Tests revealed a ligament sprain in his right knee.
The former U.S. Open champion tried to hit balls Thursday morning, but couldn’t transfer weight properly from his right side. He withdrew from the pro-am, and gave himself a 50-50 chance at playing the opening round Friday.
A year ago, two-time defending champion Geoff Ogilvy cut his finger on coral and wound up missing the first month of the season.
