Saint Peter’s holds off Canisius for 65-61 win

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — Lamin Fulton scored 14 points and Saint Peter’s withstood a one-man rally by Canisius’ Harold Washington for a 65-61 victory Thursday night in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.

Each team made six 3-pointers and 11 free throws, but Saint Peter’s (3-12, 2-2) made two more 2-point baskets, hitting 18 of 37 field goal tries while Canisius (3-11, 0-4) went 16 for 38.

The Peacocks led 27-25 at halftime but opened up a 16-point lead behind Fulton and Chris Prescott (12 points). Saint Peter’s led 56-40 with 5:16 to play when Washington got hot for Canisius.

Washington, the second-leading scorer in the MAAC, scored 10 straight points for the Golden Griffins to pull them within 62-61 with 25 seconds left. Brandon Hall hit two foul shots at the 0:16 mark for a 3-point lead before Washington missed a 3-pointer. Fulton’s pair of free throws with a second left iced it.
