NEW YORK (AP) — USA Basketball plans to announce the 18 players who will be candidates for the Olympic team by the middle of this month.
Chairman Jerry Colangelo says he has spoken with all of the players’ agents, and half the players, in the last few days, and all of them confirmed they want to play in London.
The final 12-man roster and six alternates must be submitted June 18, before the NBA finals will be complete. But all 18 names have to be given to the U.S. Olympic Committee by the end of January to be placed in the drug program.
The United States is the defending Olympic champion, and won the world championship in 2010 with an entirely different roster. The 2012 team will likely be a mixture of both.
