Maine defeats Maryland-Baltimore County 89-70

ORONO, Maine (AP) — Gerald McLemore scored 29 points, including knocking down 4 of 8 from long range, to keep Maine unbeaten in America East Conference play with a 89-70 win over Maryland-Baltimore County on Saturday.

Raheem Singleton added 17 points and Alasdair Fraser notched a double-double, scoring 16 points and pulling down 11 boards for the Black Bears (8-5, 2-0). Justin Edwards also chipped in 11 points for Maine, which has won five of its last six.

The teams stayed close until midway through the first half when, leading 22-21, Maine put together an 11-0 run sparked by a 3 from Jon McAllian. The Black Bears led by 13 points at the break and outscored the Retrievers 46-40 in the second half to seal it.

Chase Plummer scored 17 points to lead UMBC (2-13, 1-2), which has lost back-to-back games and six of seven.
