COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Kevin Murphy scored 24 points, including a pair of late 3-pointers that helped Tennessee Tech pull away to a 66-55 victory over Morehead State on Saturday night.
The Golden Eagles (11-6, 3-1 Ohio Valley Conference) led by as many as 15 points in the first half and were ahead for all but 1:39 in the game, but Morehead State stayed within range and trailed just 58-53 with 2:53 remaining.
A 3-pointer by Murphy made it 61-53 with 2:09 left, and his steal and subsequent 3-pointer at the 45-second mark increased the lead to 64-53. Murphy made 6 of 10 shots from long range as the Golden Eagles made 9 of 17.
It was Tennessee Tech’s first win in its last nine games against the Eagles (8-9, 2-2).
