Germany’s Arndt wins 4-man World Cup bobsled

ALTENBERG, Germany (AP) — Maximilian Arndt piloted Germany 2 to victory in a World Cup event at the European Championships on Sunday for his first gold medal in the four-man bobsled.

Arndt, Marko Huebenbecker, Alexander Roediger and Martin Putze were fastest in both runs for a total time of 1 minute, 49.87 seconds. They beat Russia 1 by 0.66 seconds.

The Russian team of Alexsandr Zubkov, Philipp Egorov, Dmitry Trunenkov and Nikolay Hrenkov were second fastest in each run.

Germany 1 with Thomas Florschuetz, Ronny Listner, Kevin Kuske and Thomas Blaschek trailed by 0.92 seconds in third.

Zubkov leads the overall standings after five events with 829 points, just four ahead of Florschuetz, with Arndt third at 779. The U.S., led by Steven Holcomb, is sixth.
