HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) — A 48-year-old Hillsboro man who stabbed his girlfriend was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

The Oregonian reports that (http://is.gd/E9E6og ) Julio Rene Aguilar-Perez pleaded guilty last month in Washington County Circuit Court to attempted murder.

Deputy District Attorney Bracken McKey says the victim, 27-year-old Belen Cruz, kept Aguilar-Perez away from children in their apartment during July attack, drawing more stab wounds to herself before he fled.

After Aguilar-Perez serves his sentence, he’ll be deported to Guatemala.
