SEATTLE (AP) — Education researchers at the University of Pennsylvania have a message for the citizens of Washington state. They want them to know that the state government is failing to meet its responsibility to provide enough opportunities for a college education in Washington.
While more jobs require a college degree and more kids come out of high school college ready, the state’s four year universities are not able to enroll more students. Researcher Joni Finney says Washington is failing in its responsibilities and Washington’s economy will suffer if it continues to rely on other states to educate its workforce.
The University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education has been studying state higher education systems across the nation. They published their report on Washington this week because the state Legislature convened on Monday.
