Sales up 53.6 percent at Keeneland event

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Sales are up during the first two days of Keeneland’s January Horses of All Ages Sale, with the first sessions surpassing the sales for all five days in 2011.

Keeneland sold 487 horses Monday and Tuesday for $30,115,300, up 53.6 percent over 2011 when 392 horses brought $19,600,200. The average of $61,838 is 23.6 percent higher than last year’s $50,001. The total is also 19.2 percent higher than all of last year’s five-day auction, which brought $25,250,350.

On Tuesday, 278 horses sold for $16,183,100, up 81.5 percent from last year when 205 horses brought $8,912,600. Average price was up 33.9 percent from $43,476 to $58,213.

The day’s top price was $600,000 paid by Blandford Bloodstock’s Tom Goff for Magnificent Honour, a full sister to 2007 Belmont winner Rags to Riches.
