SEATTLE (AP) — Burn bans have been declared in six Washington state counties.
The Stage 1 bans took effect late Wednesday afternoon in King, Pierce, Snohomish, Kitsap, Kittitas and Clark counties. They prohibit outdoor fires and the use of fireplaces or wood stoves, unless they are the only source of a home’s heat.
The bans are likely to remain in effect a few days until air quality improves. Pollution is building up because of a high pressure system with clear skies and calm winds.
The bans were imposed by several different agencies.
