ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — LaMarcus Reed scored 19 points Wednesday night to lead Texas-Arlington to a 66-40 victory over Sam Houston State.
It was the sixth straight win for the Mavericks (10-5, 3-0 Southland), who are off to their best start in conference play in nine years. Jordan Reves had 12 points and nine rebounds and Kevin Butler scored 11 points for Texas-Arlington, which never trailed.
The Mavericks’ defense held Sam Houston State to 20 points in each half and kept the visitors off the board entirely for one 7-minute stretch. Demarcus Gatlin had 15 points to lead the Bearkats (6-10, 0-2), who shot 33 percent from the field in the game and made just 6 of 13 from the free-throw line.
