Coastal Carolina outlasts Gardner-Webb 65-63

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Chris Gradnigo scored 23 points and Kierre Greenwood knocked down two free throws with 4.4 seconds left to give Coastal Carolina a 65-63 win over Gardner-Webb in Big South play on Thursday night.

Coastal Carolina (12-4, 5-1) held a 63-61 lead with 15 seconds left to play after Anthony Raffa knocked down a free throw. Tashan Newsome made two free throws on Gardner-Webb’s next possession to tie the game 65-all, but his foul on Greenwood with 4.4 seconds remaining would cost the Bulldogs.

Gradnigo scored 14 of his points in the first half while Greenwood paced the Chanticleers with 14 in the second half.

Coastal Carolina held Gardner-Webb (9-10, 4-3) to just 21.9 percent (7 of 32) from the field in the first half and 33.9 (21 of 62) overall.

Newsome, who finished with 21 points and 11 boards, scored 18 in the second half.
