TULSA, Okla. (AP) — The Tulsa Shock acquired starting point guard Temeka Johnson from the Phoenix Mercury on Thursday night in exchange for Andrea Riley.
Johnson started 30 games for Phoenix last season, averaging 6.4 points and 4.4 assists. She started every game for the Mercury team that won the 2009 WNBA championship and also didn’t miss a start in 2010.
New Shock coach Gary Kloppenburg called Johnson a “proven winner” who plays hard-nosed defense and will be an asset in transition.
Riley averaged six points and 1.8 assists in 33 games for Tulsa last season, including 10 starts.
