CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Drew Spradlin scored 21 points and Elon defeated The Citadel 70-55 on Thursday night, snapping a five-game losing streak.
The Phoenix (8-7, 3-1 Southern Conference) shot 46.6 percent from the field (27 of 58), while shooting well from the outside. Elon made 9 of 19 3-pointers (47.4 percent).
The Phoenix led 35-23 at halftime, despite making just 39.4 percent in the first half (13 of 33). In the second, Elon went 14 of 25 from the floor 56 (percent).
Elon scored the first seven points of the second half, and would lead by no less than 12 the rest of the way. Of the 12 Elon players who saw action 10 scored. Lucas Troutman added 10 points for the Phoenix, and Austin Hamilton had 6 of their 15 assists.
Mike Groselle led The Citadel (4-12, 1-4) with 17 points and 11 rebounds. C.J. Bray added 10 points for the Bulldogs.
