Girls basketball: La Center 57, Stevenson 52

La Center 57, Stevenson 52 — Katie Whitten scored 20 points as the Wildcats rallied at Stevenson to move into second place in the 1A Trico League.

Stevenson had a three-point lead with about 3 minutes to play. La Center recovered in the final 1:30 as Mimi Kalani made to clutch free throws to put La Center up by three. Whitten also made a shot to help ice the game.

“Whitten was composed and kept us in the game,” La Center coach Kate Stevens said. “And we played smart defense at the end (of the game).”

Stevenson’s Jen Rathgeber led all scorers with 22 points. Jewel McKee added 15.
