Portland — Company 4-Tell Inc., based in Portland but with a Stevenson-based chief executive, announced it has raised $1 million in initial startup funding, with investments coming from executives at WebMD, Digimarc and Vesta, among others. Proceeds allowed the company to add two programmers and a marketing director to its staff.

The company has developed software that allows for midsize online retailers to offer product recommendations based on customer shopping history, a service shown to increase online vendor sales.
