Albany (NY) outlasts Maine for a 76-75 victory

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Gerardo Suero scored 26 points and Albany (N.Y.) rallied, then held off Maine 76-75 Saturday night in America East action.

Maine (8-7, 2-2) led 71-66 with 4:16 to play. But Albany (12-7, 4-1) outscored the Black Bears 10-4 down the stretch and held on to win.

The decisive point came with 1:07 remaining. Backup center John Puk made 1 of 2 free throws for his only point to put Albany ahead 76-73.

A jumper by Justin Edwards, who led the Black Bears in scoring with 19 points, cut Albany’s lead to a point but the Great Danes held on.

Albany’s closing spurt included a jumper by Luke Devlin (13 points) and five points by Suero to tie it at 73-all. Devlin’s steal led to a basket by Mike Black (15 points) and a 75-73 lead.

Albany was 24 of 29 from the foul line, Maine 18 for 22.
