BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — LaMarcus Reed scored 25 points and Texas-Arlington beat Lamar 91-82 on Saturday.

Reed made four of his six 3-point attempts and was 8 for 12 overall, and grabbed eight rebounds for the Mavericks (11-5, 4-0), off to their best start in the Southland Conference.

Kevin Butler scored 19 points and Bo Ingram added 12 as Texas-Arlington led all the way. The Mavericks scored the first eight points — including two free throws by Reed after a pre-game technical assessed to Lamar for dunking during warm-ups — and led 45-36 at halftime.

Mike James matched Reed with 25 points, and Devon Lamb had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Cardinals (11-7, 2-2). Charlie Harper scored 12 points and Anthony Miles added 11 for Lamar, which couldn’t come any closer than seven points in the second half.
