CAIRO (AP) — A spokesman for the Egyptian military says candidates wishing to run for president may nominate themselves starting in mid-April.

Supreme Council of the Armed Forces member Maj. Gen. Mohsen el-Fangari told Egypt;s state television on Sunday that presidential elections would be held in mid-June.

It would be the first presidential election since Hosni Mubarak was ousted in a popular uprising last January.

On Jan. 25, Egyptians will mark a year since the start of the popular uprising that forced President Hosni Mubarak out of office. The military took over after Mubarak resigned.
