Community notebook: Showtime Baseball claims title

Local all-star team wins wood bat event in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The Showtime Baseball 18-under team went 6-0 to capture the title at the Martin Luther King Classic 18U Wood Bat tournament in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Showtime defeated Team MaxBat 18U, an all-star team made up of players from multiple states, 8-4 in the championship game on Monday.

Showtime had reached the title game with a 6-2 semifinal win over the Weber Warriors of Pleasant View, Utah, also on Monday.

In the 10-team showcase event that began Saturday, Showtime outscored its opponents 29-15 over four pool-play wins and racked up 36 hits.

Blake Christopher had five hits in pool play, and Sjohn Williamson, Elijah Dickerson and Riley O’Dell each had four hits.

Vancouver Lake Half Marathon on Sunday

Several hundred runners and walkers will converge on Vancouver Lake Park on Sunday for the 22nd annual Vancouver Lake Half Marathon. The race starts at 10 a.m.

The Clark County Running Club race is full with 520 registered. Parking is limited and participants are encouraged to carpool.

The 13.1-mile race is an out-and-back that starts near the parking lot at Vancouver Lake Park. The course takes runners out to Frenchman’s Bar and back to the finish at Vancouver Lake Park.

Babe Ruth registration

Camas-Washougal Babe Ruth signups are noon to 1 p.m. on Jan. 21, and Jan. 22 at Louis Bloch Park in Camas. This league serves players ages 13-15 who live in Cascade Park, and the cities of Camas and Washougal. The service area extends from I-205 east to Skamania County and south of Padden Parkway to the Columbia River. For players ages 13-15. North county Babe Ruth — Online registration is ongoing for the Babe Ruth Baseball league that serves Kalama, Woodland, Ridgefield, La Center and much of northern Clark County. Register online at www.leaguelineup.com/kwrlbaberuth.

KWRL Babe Ruth’s boundaries cover the Ridgefield, La Center, Woodland, Yacolt and Amboy school districts.

The final registration opportunity and open tryout will be held Feb. 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Teams are being formed in each community with some exceptions depending on turnout. For more information, call 360-601-4394.

Little League sign ups

Registration is ongoing for many of Clark County’s 18 Little Leagues.

Play begins in March and continues through June for most leagues, which offer baseball and softball for ages 5-18.

Youth bowling registration

Registration is open for the 34th-annual Clark County Youth Bowling Championships.

The tournament will be played over several weekends in March at Husted’s Hazel Dell Lanes.
