OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — State Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen of Camano Island pushed for the bill seven years ago that allowed the use of red light traffic cameras in Washington.
Although Mukilteo, Monroe, Bellingham and Longview have voted against the automatic ticketing systems, the head of the Senate Transportation Committee says she has no regrets and believes they improve safety.
However, Haugen does support what she calls a clean-up bill sponsored by Sen. Randi Becker of Eatonville. It would set fines at a uniform $124 and require cities to submit annual reports on infractions and accidents.
