FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Jerry Brown scored a career-high 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Fresno State rode a strong second half for a 66-55 nonconference victory over Cal State San Marcos on Wednesday night.
Kevin Olekaibe added 14 points for the Bulldogs (9-11), who outscored the Cougars 21-4 on second-chance points.
Daniel Redmon scored 13 points for San Marcos, an NAIA team, and Jacob Ranger added 12.
Brown had four of Fresno State’s 15 offensive rebounds and finished 9 of 13 from the free-throw line. The Cougars finished with seven offensive boards.
Brown and Kevin Foster helped the Bulldogs build their second-half lead by being active on the offensive glass. Foster’s offensive rebound and put-back gave the Bulldogs a 44-35 lead, and two straight buckets by Jonathan Wills made it an 11-point cushion with 8:50 left.
Fresno State’s lead eventually grew to 18 points, 60-42, on Olekaibe’s second 3-pointer with 5:44 remaining.
