CLEVELAND (AP) — Former center Zydrunas Ilgauskas has returned to the Cleveland Cavaliers as a special assistant to general manager Chris Grant.
The popular Ilgauskas, who played 12 seasons for the Cavs, will be involved in evaluating amateur and pro prospects. Ilgauskas is Cleveland’s career leader in games played, rebounds and blocks. The Cavaliers drafted the 7-foot-3 Lithuanian in 1996. Ilgauskas overcame serious foot injuries at the start of his career and became a two-time All-Star.
Known simply as “Z” by Cleveland fans, llgauskas retired after playing for the Miami Heat last season.
Ilgauskas said he’s excited about returning to the team and hopes to learn under Grant.
