Merthie leads Campbell past Radford 73-65

RADFORD, Va. (AP) — Lorne Merthie scored 19 of his 21 points in the second half as Campbell defeated Radford 73-65 Thursday night for the Camels’ third straight Big South Conference win.

Eric Griffin added 15 points and 11 rebounds for Campbell (13-8, 7-2), which shot 60.9 percent in the second half (14 of 23).

The Camels, who came in ranked 3rd nationally in field-goal percentage (.503), finished at 50 percent (24 of 48).

The Highlanders (4-17, 1-8), fresh off an 85-66 win over High Point, have lost 16 of their last 17 games.

After Radford led 30-27 at the break, Campbell opened the second half 11 of 15 from the field and used a 17-5 streak, highlighted by 16 points from Merthie, to lead 61-50 with 5:42 left.

Campbell’s Darren White, following his lone non-double-digit game, had 13 points.

Javonte Green’s 16 points led the Highlanders, who shot 39.6 percent (21 of 53).
