SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Public employees are asking the Oregon Legislature to block the state’s pension system from releasing the names of employees and retirees.
The Oregonian reports that (http://bit.ly/AbxsU7 ) a bill expected to be introduced this week, but it’s not clear whether it has much support among legislators. The paper says the measure is being introduced as a courtesy to a coalition of public sector unions.
The Public Employees Retirement system used to provide the information, but stopped in 2002. Last year, it reached a settlement with The Oregonian and the Salem Statesman Journal. It’s released some information and is due to release more in March.
