Letter: Blame for litter was misplaced

In response to the Jan. 12 letter, “Keep parks free of corporate influence,” perhaps the moral sickness that is being ascribed to the national park leadership, because they bowed to the Coca Cola Company that donated $13 million to the national parks and wanted to be able to continue to distribute their products at Grand Canyon, should instead be put on the hikers who litter the trails with discarded water bottles.

It seems to me that the hikers are the ones who are morally sick; they want to be able to use the facilities provided but disrespect them by littering, thus causing the superintendent at Grand Canyon to deem it necessary to spend money to construct water refill stations at the trail head. The hikers should be responsible and pick up after themselves.
