Campbell outlasts VMI 80-73 for 4th straight win

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) — Eric Griffin and Darren White both recorded double-doubles to lead Campbell over Virginia Military Institute 80-73 on Saturday for its fourth straight win.

Griffin finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds on 10 of 16 shooting. The senior forward leads the Big South Conference in field goal percentage (61 percent) while ranking second in rebounds per game (8.7).

White, who is the Big South’s second leading scorer, had 22 points and 16 rebounds and topped 20 points for the ninth time this season.

VMI (10-9, 5-4) cut Campbell’s five-point halftime lead to two, 32-30, after Keith Gabriel knocked down a 3-pointer but the Camels used an 11-4 run to go ahead 43-34.

Gabriel led VMI with 33 points.

Campbell (13-8, 7-2) pushed the lead to 12, 69-57, after a Griffin layup with 6:07 left.

The Camels handed out 23 assists, compared to just 11 for VMI, and blocked eight shots.
