SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Torrey Craig scored on a put-back just before the buzzer to give South Carolina-Upstate a 79-78 win over Belmont Saturday.
Craig’s jumper ended a 7-2 run in the final 2:45 started by Ricardo Glenn’s steal. The Spartans’ Jodd Maxey then got the ball from his teammate and dunked it home to begin SC-Upstate’s spurt. Kerron Johnson’s layup made it a four-point game, 78-74, for the Bruins.
However, Belmont wouldn’t score the rest of the way, as Craig made a 3 with 1:33 left before his winning shot.
SC-Upstate trailed 43-27 at halftime and shot 60.6 percent in the second half (20 of 33).
Craig finished with 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting and Maxey added 19 points. Ty Greene chipped in 12 points and Glenn had 10 for the Spartans (11-9, 5-3 Atlantic Sun Conference).
The Bruins (13-7, 6-2) were led by Johnson with 18 points and Mick Hedgepeth with 16.
