Morgan leads Massachusetts past Richmond 79-68

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Jesse Morgan scored 20 points and Massachusetts held off Richmond 79-68 Saturday in Atlantic 10 Conference action.

The Minutemen (15-5, 4-2), who have won three of their last four contests, snapped a two-game road losing streak in league play and a three-game skid in the series.

After Massachusetts went up by 12 points with 15:45 to go, the Spiders (11-9, 2-3) used a 13-3 run to get within a basket, at 49-47 with 11:17 left.

Richmond, which had its last lead at 3-2, could get no closer. The Spiders trailed 59-55 when the Minutemen pulled away with a 16-6 run, sparked by Morgan’s 3-pointer.

Chaz Williams added 17 points, hitting 10 of 10 free throws, Sean Carter scored 15 and Maxie Esho 12 for Massachusetts.

Darien Brothers and Kendall Anthony scored 12 apiece to lead Richmond, which has lost two in a row after a two-game winning streak.
