VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Amy Rodriguez tied a U.S. record with five goals, and the U.S. women’s soccer team set a scoring record by routing the Dominican Republic 14-0 Friday night in the Americans’ opening game of the CONCACAF qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in London.

The most lopsided win in the U.S. women’s 27-year history was tempered by a right knee injury to U.S. defender Ali Krieger, who was hurt late in the first half. She used crutches to walk to the locker room at halftime, and a U.S. team spokesman called the injury “serious.”

Abby Wambach scored 37 seconds into the match, the first of two goals before she left at halftime. Heather O’Reilly scored a hat trick.
