COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (AP) — Witnesses told the Oregon State Police the bicyclist killed on Interstate 5 near Cottage Grove was trying to cross the freeway he was hit.

The bicyclist was not wearing reflective clothing and the bike had no lights at the time, about 9:30 Saturday night. Witnesses say he was biking northbound on the southbound shoulder when he crossed into the path of an SUV.

The dead man was identified as 29-year-old Casey Michael Pitts-Carroll, a transient who previously lived in Eugene.
