Jaden Jantzer provided the spark to get the Panthers back in the game after the Lumberjacks jumped out to an early lead.

“They played hard, and they’re improved from the beginning of the year,” Washougal coach Malcolm Estes said of R.A. Long. “We kind of got shocked at first, but we got our composure back.”

Washougal trailed 28-16 in the second quarter before Jantzer made a bucket and a 3-pointer on his way to 12 points.

Isaac Bischoff scored 17 points to lead the Panthers (11-6, 3-2 2A GSHL). Aaron Deister scored eight of his 12 points in the third quarter as Washougal took a 45-44 lead going into the final period. Michael McElroy scored 10 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter as the Panthers pulled away, making 6 of 7 free throws to lead the team’s 10-of-13 shooting from the line in the last eight minutes.

Deister also had 11 rebounds as Washougal controlled the boards in the final three quarters and turned up the defensive pressure to take control.

Joe Buckley led the Lumberjacks (2-14, 0-5) with 22 points.
